A fun milestone you can expect in your baby’s life is transitioning from bottles to cups! Sippy cups are a great way of transitioning, and there’s a good cup option for every age range. Here are some of our favorites, starting at 6 months! We've also linked them all here on our Amazon page so you can find it easily. Click HERE!
6-9 Months:
Philips Avent – My Natural Trainer Cup: This was my favorite cup for my son when he was first learning to drink water. It’s the perfect transformer cup for when they’re learning to drink water. It has great handles so they can learn to hold their own cups.
NUK Learner Sippy Cup: The Nuk is another great transition cup. It really helps make the transition from bottle to cup SO easy. It’s spill-proof, and the spout is gentle on gums. The air vent also helps reduce the chances of your little one swallowing air. You can even remove the handles as your child grows! Overall, it’s a great buy.
9-12 Months:
OXO Tot Transitions Straw Cup:
This OXO transitions cup is another solid option. It helps children learn how to drink from a straw; the lid also folds over so you can easily close the top and keep the straw clean while you store the cup in your diaper bag. The straw valve opens as soon as your tot’s lips touch the spout for easy drinking, and the hinged cap closes to create a leakproof seal.
12-18 Months:
Tommee Tippee Insulated Sippee Toddler Tumbler: This spill-proof cup is perfect for new toddlers. The lid closes to keep the top clean and sanitary, and also allows your new toddler to hold the bottle with their hands without a handle — which will help them learn how to transition to actual cups later on.
Take and Toss Cups:
These are great for when your infant becomes a toddler. They come in both a sprout and straw version, and you can get them in multiple packs for less than $5, so if you accidentally leave one somewhere, it’s not the end of the world. My son is now 2 and he still loves drinking his milk from the straw version!
18 Months and Up:
Munchkin Miracle 360° Trainer Cup- These will be great if your baby loves to use them because they are “adult” like cups and it gets them used to using cups eventually.
Thermos Stainless Steel Straw Bottle:
These Thermos straw bottles are one of the best toddler cups out there and will grow with your toddler as they start to approach preschool years! It’s vacuum-insulated, has an easy-to-clean removable silicone straw, and a push button lid with a pop-up straw. Plus, it’ll keep their liquids cold for 12 hours, which is really helpful on warm summer days.
Reflo 360 Rotating Spoutless Training Cup:
This one is definitely hit-or-miss! You’re going to love it or absolutely hate it; either way, you can’t deny that it’s a good transition cup. It has a free-flowing design and also has a flow-controlled rim that goes inside the cup to prevent major spills. It’s a good transition cup if you’re teaching your kids to go from sippy cups to adult cups.
Pura Stainless Steel Straw Bottle: We’re huge fans of the Pura Stainless line. They have bottles for every age range, but we especially love their straw bottles, which is ideal for Pre-K to early elementary school kids. The straw bottle is 100% plastic-free, BPA/BPS-free, and toxin-free, too!
